Kim Darroch
Kim Darroch has been the UK Permanent Representative to the EU since July 2007.

He joined the Diplomatic Service in 1976, and served in Protocol Department, Planning Staff and News Department before being posted to Tokyo from 1980-84. On return to London, he was Desk Officer for the Channel Tunnel project and co-Secretary of the UK-French Channel Tunnel Treaty Group, then Private Secretary to three successive Ministers of State.

He was posted to Rome from 1989-92 as First Secretary (EU) then returned to London to become Deputy Head of European Union Department. He moved to head Eastern Adriatic Department, dealing with the break-up of Yugoslavia and the Bosnia conflict, from 1995-97.

He then spent 12 months in Brussels from 1997-98, coinciding with the 1998 UK Presidency, as Counsellor (External Relations). He was FCO Press Secretary and Head of News Department from 1998-2000. He became Europe Director in mid-2000, and Europe Director General in 2003.

In June 2004 he became EU Adviser to the Prime Minister and Head of the Cabinet Office European Secretariat.

Kim Darroch was born in 1954 and educated at Abingdon School and Durham University. He is married, with one son and one daughter.
